Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We cover Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Walsall, Redditch, Bromsgrove and the wider Worcestershire area. Our base is in Marston Green, Birmingham. If you are just outside that radius, call us on 07869 837 241 and we will usually still be able to help.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes. Pipe Guys is Gas Safe registered under number 919394. Every engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card you can ask to see on site, and our registration is kept current with the Gas Safe Register.

Are you available 24/7?

Yes. We run a 24/7 emergency line and aim to respond the same day whenever we can, including weekends. Call 07869 837 241 or message us on WhatsApp and we will come back to you as quickly as possible.

How long have you been trading?

Pipe Guys is led by Ryan O'Mahony, who trained under a gas engineer with 28 years of experience. Ryan worked for several gas and plumbing firms after qualifying and passing his ACS before setting up Pipe Guys to run jobs his own way.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. Quotes are free, no-obligation and fixed once accepted. Call 07869 837 241 or use the quote form on the site and we will come back to you with a clear price, with no hidden extras.

What payment methods do you accept?

We take credit and debit cards, bank transfer and cash. For larger installation jobs we are happy to discuss staged payments. Payment is normally taken on completion.

How much does a boiler service cost?

A full annual boiler service costs between £79 and £124, depending on the make and model. That includes the full manufacturer-standard service, all safety checks and a photographic report emailed to you on the day.

Do you issue a service report?

Yes. We send a full boiler service report by email and WhatsApp, complete with photographs of every step taken. That means you know exactly what was checked, what was cleaned and whether anything needs attention.

How often should I service my boiler?

Once a year. Annual servicing keeps the manufacturer's warranty valid, helps the boiler run efficiently and catches small problems before they become expensive ones. Late summer or early autumn is a popular time to book, before the heating season starts.

Can you issue a Gas Safety Certificate?

Yes. We provide Landlord Gas Safety Certificates (CP12) for rental properties, usually on the same visit as the annual service so you are not paying for two call-outs.

What does the service actually cover?

Visual checks for leaks and damage, electrical and control checks, flue gas analysis, a boiler tightness test, ventilation safety checks and a full system pressure check. Every step is photographed for the report.

Do you charge a call-out fee for boiler breakdowns?

Yes. Our call-out fee is £84 plus VAT and it includes the engineer's first hour of labour plus any small parts carried on the van. In most cases that is enough to have your boiler fixed before we leave.

How quickly can you respond?

We run a same-day response wherever possible, including weekends. Call 07869 837 241 as soon as the fault shows up and we will let you know the soonest we can be on site.

Can you repair my boiler today?

In most cases, yes. We carry common Worcester, Vaillant, Baxi and Ideal spares on the van. If a specific part needs ordering, we will tell you straight away, book a return visit and get it done as fast as the supplier allows.

Can you fix every brand of boiler?

Yes. Worcester, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, Glowworm, Potterton, Ferroli, whatever the badge says. We have seen most faults before and will tell you honestly whether it is worth repairing.

What if the boiler is beyond repair?

We will say so. If the repair bill is going to be close to the cost of a new high-efficiency boiler, or if the boiler is already at the end of its life, we will tell you up front and give you a separate quote for a replacement. No pressure either way.

How much does a new boiler cost?

Most boiler installations land between £1,795 and £2,995, including the boiler itself, installation, system flush, commissioning and warranty registration. The final price depends on the brand, size, complexity of the installation and any extras like a smart thermostat.

Do you provide a warranty on new installations?

Yes. Every install comes with a full parts and labour warranty of 5, 10 or 12 years, depending on the brand and model you choose. We will explain the exact terms before you commit and register the warranty on your behalf.

How long does a boiler installation take?

Most straightforward installations are completed in a single day. We remove the old unit, fit the new boiler, flush the system, commission it properly and hand it back with a full demo. More complex system conversions may take a second day.

Can I control my new boiler from my phone?

Yes. We can fit a smart thermostat such as Hive, Google Nest or an Alexa-compatible unit at the same time as the install. It gives you app control from your phone or tablet and pays for itself in lower gas bills within a couple of heating seasons.

Do you accept card payment for new boilers?

Yes. We take credit and debit cards, bank transfer and cash. For larger jobs we are happy to agree staged payments so you are not handing over the full amount in one go.

Do you remove and dispose of the old boiler?

Yes. Removal and responsible disposal of the old boiler is included in the installation price. You do not have to arrange any skip, collection or waste transfer yourself.

Can you install a radiator in a room that never had one?

Yes. We can install and upgrade radiators in any room and in any style, including extensions, loft and garage conversions, and rooms that were missed when the heating was first put in. We run the pipework tidily and commission the system after.

What styles of radiator do you fit?

All styles: classic white panel radiators, tall vertical designer units, column radiators, and heated towel rails for bathrooms and en-suites. We can help you pick a radiator that looks right in the room and still delivers the heat output you need.

Do you fit thermostatic valves?

Yes. Every radiator install includes new thermostatic radiator valves as standard, so you can control each room independently and keep your running costs down.

How much does a radiator upgrade cost?

Straightforward swap-outs start at around £125. Designer and vertical radiators cost more depending on the model you pick. We give you a fixed quote up front once we know the style and location, with no hidden extras.

Can you balance the whole system while you are at it?

Yes. If you are having a radiator or two replaced, it is a good time to balance the whole system so your upstairs and downstairs heat evenly. We can usually do that in the same visit.

Do you repair toilets?

Yes. We repair every type of toilet, including modern enclosed-cistern suites where the workings are hidden behind panels. Flush mechanisms, float valves, seals and fixings are carried on the van so most repairs are done on the first visit.

Do you install electric showers?

Yes. We install and repair every type of shower, from thermostatic and mixer showers to electric and concealed units. We can recommend the right model for your water pressure and mains setup.

Can you come out today for a leak?

In most cases, yes. Call 07869 837 241 as soon as you spot the leak and we will let you know the soonest we can be on site. Shut off the stopcock to the affected area in the meantime if you can.

Do you fix dripping taps and pipework?

Yes. Dripping taps, failing washers, leaking pipework, mains and cylinder issues are all bread-and-butter for us. Most repairs are completed on the first visit.

How much does a plumbing repair cost?

Typical plumbing repairs sit between £60 and £160, depending on the job and the parts. We quote clearly up front and never charge extra if a job runs slightly longer than expected.
