Solihull Radiator Upgrade

The Brief

A Solihull homeowner was redesigning their living room and wanted to free up wall space currently taken up by a wide, low panel radiator. They wanted a tall vertical designer unit that could slot in beside the media wall, deliver the same heat output to the room, and tie in with the modern interior without fighting it.

What We Did

Our work on the day included:

• Heat-loss calculation: Measured the room and worked out the BTU output needed so we could pick a designer radiator that would actually heat the space properly.
• Model selection: Recommended a tall vertical anthracite column radiator from a trusted UK manufacturer. Confirmed stock and delivery before committing to a date.
• Isolated and removed the old radiator: Drained the section of pipework, removed the old panel radiator and prepared the wall for the new mounting.
• Re-routed pipework: Adjusted the flow and return pipework to meet the new vertical inlet positions, with neat 15 mm chrome pipework left visible to match the design brief.
• Fitted matching TRV: Installed a new thermostatic radiator valve so the room can be controlled independently of the rest of the house.
• Refilled and balanced: Refilled, bled and balanced the whole upstairs/downstairs system so the new radiator and the rest of the heating work together properly.

The Result

A statement piece in the living room that delivers the full heat output the homeowner needed, with tidy pipework, a matching TRV and a balanced system. Room temperature was back up to normal within an hour of refill.
